Leishmaniasis is a very serious parasitic disease that's spread through the bite of sand flies infected with a protozoan flagellate. An estimated 350 million people in 88 countries around the world are at risk of contracting the potentially deadly illness, and the number of confirmed incidents continues to rise. Upstream Biosciences, Inc. Okay, so maybe I’m getting my Notre Dame movie references confused, but years after making history on the Notre Dame gridiron, football hero Daniel “Rudy” Ruettiger continues to make news with Rudy Nutrition (Pink Sheets: RUNU), where he serves as Chairman of the Board. This company caught my eye just because I live in South Bend, Indiana--home of the Golden Dome. For those of you who may be unfamiliar with the story, Rudy’s story in brief is one of overcoming tremendous obstacles to attend Notre Dame and play football for the Fightin’ Irish. Rudy, during the only ... Continue

The alternative energy industry has come into the limelight and is gathering momentum. This is not only because fossil fuels are depleting at an extremely fast pace, but also on account of increased focus on the environment. Given these two very crucial objectives in place, more than half the states in the US now require a certain portion of energy utilized by the state to be from renewable sources. Moreover, with the recent surge in oil prices, the economics of alternative energy have improved. Alternative energy refers to energy produced from sources other than fossil fuels. The most common ones ... Continue

During the past two weeks, 26 OTCBB companies have announced they will be paying dividends to shareholders. Along with capital gains, dividends are an important return on investment. Typically, only mature companies with dependable revenues pay dividends. Development and growth stage companies retain earnings rather than pay them out to shareholders. Rarely are all net earnings paid out. Even long established and financially stable businesses retain a significant amount of earnings for investment in the future of the company. Reinvestment should generate company growth that is reflected in dependable dividend increases over time. Dividends can be paid on both common ... Continue

Business mergers are a frequent topic in the financial news and the OTCBB has no shortage of them. The most common reason businesses decide to merge two separate business operations is for the purpose of speedy growth. Once merged, each company gains rapid access to the market previously served by the other. The most beneficial mergers occur when two companies compliment each other and the combination creates a synergy that fuels stronger growth than each company could have achieved independently. Exxon and Mobil petroleum merged into ExxonMobile in 1999. As a result, they were able to better use each others ... Continue

This morning, I bought plane tickets for my wife and I to go back to Thailand. We’ll get there in time for the incredible Songkran (New Year) celebration in April, but the cost of tickets seems to get higher every year. Between the time I first checked the web site yesterday, and I purchased the tickets this morning, the price went up by $300 a ticket. So what are the airlines doing with all this money? Airline stocks have been doing poorly for quite some time. Last week, they started to decline across the board after the merger deal ... Continue

While the requirements to trade on the OTCBB are more relaxed than for more senior trading forums such as NASDAQ or AMEX, OTCBB companies are required to maintain financial statement filings with the SEC. A 10K form is a company’s annual report and can be accessed by the investing public through the SEC’s EDGAR online system. Many OTCBB traded companies file a variation of the 10K form that is specifically intended for small businesses and know as form 10KSB. Quarterly financial statements are reported on form 10Q. Simultaneous with the SEC filing, many companies make press releases announcing ... Continue

It’s not all charts and technical analysis that makes for a good deal; it also pays to know which way the wind blows and what’s in store in the coming months and years. And the biggest fortune-teller’s hat in the investment community is worn by the venture capitalist, who must make an educated guess on the future and put millions of dollars behind that guess. A report just issued by Dow Jones VentureSource noted that venture capital investment in clean technology hit $3 billion last year, a record amount and a 43 percent increase over the ... Continue

The talk among first day attendees centered on investors wanting to know and prospectors wanting to tell why the world has seen a decline in exciting mineral discoveries. The topic is ongoing, and it is what makes the numerous junior mining and ... Continue
